Hi there, since my first attempt to become an admin on Commons was more than six years ago, I decided to try again. My first request was obviously declined as I lacked the necessary experience to become a trusted admin and contribute productively. Over the last six years, however, I have gained a lot more experience and have become an active contributor to Commons, with ~19,800 edits to date. In fact, I spend more time on Commons than on my home Wikipedia.

My main focus on Commons is quality assurance and deletion requests, primarily through the Commons:WikiProject Chemistry. Since March 2019, I have been a file mover and have tried to contribute in this area too.

If I am elected as an admin, I will support the current admin team by reducing the backlog, particularly with regard to deletion requests. I promise that I will use the admin tools carefully and will seek advice from more experienced admins if I am unsure about the correct approach to a particular problem. Shaan Sengupta, please clarify your position. I see you have struck out your  Oppose, but are you now  Neutral or  Support? .     Jim . . . (Jameslwoodward) (talk to me) 13:59, 31 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Jameslwoodward Sorry for the delay but I was yet to decide. No red flags with Chem's work here but I am inclined to  Oppose. Not a thumbrule but I believe anyone wanting the mop should have some experience with maintenance and stuff. Maybe a patroller or LR for a while. Bcoz being an admin isn't just a one-off thing but a whole lot of stuff. Shaan SenguptaTalk 23:28, 31 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Shaan Sengupta, thank you. There was no rush -- I may be the 'crat that closes this, so I just wanted to be sure I could count you correctly. .     Jim . . . (Jameslwoodward) (talk to me) 16:17, 1 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
check comments, there is slight chance of canvassing. so,  Weak oppose. modern_primat ඞඞඞ ----TALK 15:45, 4 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Neutral I would like to support any admin who can solve user problems, and I will wait to see how this progresses before casting a vote. Previously I missed a vote for Ziv as an admin so I support Ziv as well. 📅 02:41, 2 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Weak support. Okay, I'll give it a chance. I know that the user previously failed for an admin request due to insufficient rights and trust, and now, though the edit count is currently a problem, I'm inclined to give a little bit of support, as many others have supported. If you have difficulties being an admin, consulting other experienced admins may be the best way. 📅 07:41, 2 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  •  Weak support I don't think I've ever seen this user before and it seems like their recent edits are extremely low. So I'm not strongly supporting this. Although I wouldn't be upset if they did become an admin either since we need more of them. That said, their user name is kind of convoluted and hard to pronounce. So it might be good to shorten it or something if, or when, they become an administrator. --Adamant1 (talk) 04:52, 2 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Adamant1, first of all, thanks for your support! As already mentioned above, the lower edit count in the past weeks (or months) is mainly attributed to my (now finished) university studies. In addition, the situation of my personal real life - let's say - has changed as well so I can contribute very actively again. Regarding your concerns about my user name, I can (partly) agree. I chose my current username when I created my account on Wikimedia in 2018 and didn't think much about readability/spelling or other things at that time. Perhaps it would be a good idea (and also a good restart as an admin) to change my username to something a bit simpler, e.g. just ChemSim. But I think that's a discussion for another time. •  Support The concerns brought up by others are either obsolete or very minor. Taylor 49 (talk) 19:38, 2 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  •  Support I noted since quite some time Chem Sim 2001s work for chemical diagrams. Since years he is creating new and more correct diagrams that replace incorrect ones. I got an overall good impression from their communication (see this recent correspondence as example in a recent case but I noticed the same level-headedness in earlier talks). --AFBorchert (talk) 20:36, 2 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  •  Weak support, I've had to think about this for a few days now, because I'm still wavering between being contra and neutral. Aside from the file moving, ChemSim hasn't caught my attention yet, and that's only because I noticed that he often moves files without creating a redirect or asking for them to be deleted. There could definitely be a few more edits, especially in the areas where you're ultimately involved as an admin. But I'm sure they'll come; I've noticed how it is myself. Sometimes file moving just has to take a back seat. זיו「Ziv」For love letters and other notes 21:03, 2 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  •  Weak support They seem to be a levelheaded candidate willing to help and I don't see any red flags and they could grow into the role. Abzeronow (talk) 23:57, 2 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  •  Support No concerns. --Leyo 00:01, 3 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Cactusisme: Thanks for your vote! May I ask for the reasons that have lead to your decision? Maybe there is something I can do better in the future? I'm always open for constructive criticism. Best, Chem Sim 2001 (talk) 14:52, 3 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Canvassing

What do users make of com:canvassing activities like special:permalink/1039963645#Please_vote_for_new_admin: "vote for"?--RoyZuo (talk) 10:18, 4 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks RoyZuo for catching this. I have to clearly distance myself from this post. In the past, I have never had any contact with User:HingWahStreet either here on Commons or privately. Especially the wording "vote for" cleary indicates a supportive vote rather than informing the community about an ongoing admin candidacy. I'm also surprised that User:HingWahStreet changed his vote from "Pro" to "Neutral" to "Weakly Pro". Chem Sim 2001 (talk) 10:51, 4 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
no... im gonna change my vote. modern_primat ඞඞඞ ----TALK 15:43, 4 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Chem Sim 2001 @RoyZuo The word for is to call more users to engage in the vote, but not suggesting them to vote to support or against someone. Or I may change the entire phrase of the topic to the RFA link instead next time. Disclaimer: this is NOT canvassing, this is only a call for engagement. 📅 03:50, 6 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Unfortunately, the word "for" in "invite you to vote for a new administrator" strongly suggests a positive vote. It would be better to say "User:Chem Sim 2001 has made a Request for Adminship (RFA). Please vote." .     Jim . . . (Jameslwoodward) (talk to me) 12:58, 6 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
